2005 was a year that is transitional the Volkswagen Jetta. In anticipation of a redesigned vehicle introduced mid-year, the year that is previous models were sold well to the current 12 months, with no changes were built to the Jetta wagons.

When the restyled New Jetta sedans did arrive, they certainly were longer and heavier than previous models, with a period of nearly 15 foot and a weight of just under 3,300 pounds. Upgrades included a longer front end, brand new taillights, an improved safety system with additional airbags, a fresh steering system, and a new, more suspension that is rigid.

The standard engine was also upgraded, to a 150-horsepower, 2.5-liter five-cylinder powerplant, which was linked to a standard five-speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic, also brand new for 2005, was optional. The 1.9-liter turbodiesel engine, which pumped away 100 horsepower, was also available.

In addition, standard features for the Jetta sedan were expanded for 2005, and included air fitness, power windows, power home locks, a CD player, anti-lock brake system, and traction control. Security control was standard regarding the higher-end trim packages, since were rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a CD changer, and a trip computer.

Drivers' reviews of the 2005 Jetta were mixed. Some drivers were impressed using the longer, heavier, more effective vehicles while others felt the changes did little to improve the car. Some  expressed concerns about the automobile's fuel economy, performance, and styling, though most felt the Jetta's interior appointments, safety features, and comfort were noteworthy.
